Teacher profile

Full Name:

Emily Katsuno

I have led a life guided by passion, a passion for movement, expression of spirit and exploration of our beautiful planet! I danced from an early age and during my degree came to understand the body in movement from an experiential and sensory level. This has influenced my yoga teaching greatly, giving me a deep understanding of how to guide the body through both movement and stillness. I danced professionally for a few years but felt called on a different journey where my spirit could have more of a voice. Yoga had always supported my dance studies but the calling came to explore the practice much more deeply. Over the course of several years I made many trips to India and other parts of Asia where I was blessed to study with some wonderful yoga practitioners from a variety of traditions including Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar, Sivananda and Kundalini. I didn't ever feel I had to limit my exploration of yoga to one style and fell in love with aspects of them all and you will find them all flowing into my teachings as I allow my heart to guide me. After my first yoga teacher training in Dhramashala, India I continued to live in Asia for two years teaching at Inner Living Yoga in Malaysia and The Yoga Shack on Nusa Lembongan (Bali) as well as guest teaching at The Yoga Barn in Ubud and Desa Seni. Over these two years I was completely immersed in the practice and teaching of yoga and lucky to be able to keep studying with many wonderful international teachers. I have since settled in Ashburton, Devon where I now run all my classes and run retreats both abroad and in the South West with New Moon Yoga a company I run with my yogini soul sister Chelan Freeman. My teaching has become ever more holistic and therapeutic over the years. Whilst studying on the Devon School of yoga's therapy course I experienced three miscarriages and went on a deep healing journey using yoga and other healing traditions as my guide. Since having my beautiful son Kaio I have a special passion for women's health especially fertility, pregnancy and the post-natal phase. I have recently trained with Uma Dinsmore Tuli a leading practitioner on women's health and yoga (womb yoga) and feel called to work with women. There is deep feminine wisdom to be reinstated within us all and I feel compelled to share what I have learnt on my journey to having my son. I am ever grateful that yoga came into my life and swept me up in it's ever expanding wisdom! Yoga has been a deeply healing, grounding and enlightening presence in my life, that I feel empowers me to live the best life I can, inspiring me to manifest my full potential and make the most of my time here on our beautiful planet Earth!
