This is the Convent of the Poor Clares at Woodchester. It is a beautiful, peaceful, spiritual place: a Cotswold home for prayer and worship for the past two hundred and sixty years (the nuns left only last year). We know in our hearts that this old convent would be the perfect space to welcome you all: to join us for retreats and trainings, for inter-faith celebrations and camps, for intensive studies and personal retreats, for workshops and classes, and for quiet times of healing rest. We see it as a gracious open house for interfaith relations, for yoga and for devotional music and song.

You can make a virtual visit to the place yourself www.inst.knightfrank.com/view/theconvent The password is ‘woodchester’

We have seen clearly how this wonderful place could be a bright beacon for conscious living, a practical, healing example of harmonious relations between those of many faiths, living and working, praying, meditating, singing and practicing together, and sharing their skills and knowledge widely. The convent was built for a spiritual community and we feel that its future is to house an openhearted, welcoming community of residents and visitors committed to the evolution of human consciousness through joyful interfaith connection and through trainings and practice, for example through many forms of spiritual practice, including yoga, especially yoga nidra, meditation and other healing arts.

The price for purchase has been reduced from £2.25 million to £1.7 million. This includes 26 acres of land, with a spring and with farm buildings also. We have been devising a business plan for the use of the Convent, and feel very clearly that it is crying out to be used still as a home for a spiritual community. We have been in discussion with the owners, the Catholic Diocese of Clifton, about leasing the property and the land but this is not an option. Purchase is the only way forward.

So please, if this vision resonates with you, then we are urgently asking for your help.

Many people have come forward to offer hands and hearts to help grow a community that could host all the activities we can envision. But hearts and hands alone will not raise the funds to purchase the property. If you, or anyone known to you would love to invest in the purchase of this astonishing place of beauty and spirit, please do let us know. We invite you to contact as us soon as you are able. The very kind guardian angel (in human form) who loves the spirit of the Convent and its lands has recently informed us that another prospective purchaser is very close indeed to having sufficient funds to purchase the Convent as a housing project.

But we feel that such a powerful, consecrated and prayerful place is vitally needed in these challenging times, and we know that the work we do and the work of all those colleagues of ours who are sharing yoga, light and hope should find a home here in the Convent.

Please now help us to make this vision a reality. Hold the spirit of the place in your heart, and help us to keep it safe as a home for all the good work that could be done there, and for all the people whose lives could be lit up by a visit to this place. Do send this link to anyone you know who may be able to help. We trust the right people will be there to help secure the future of the convent as a spiritual community.

Please, if you are able, do email us at yoganidra@me.com to tell us about the investors you know who can help us purchase the property to secure its future use as a centre of healing and spiritual work. We encourage you to contact us as soon as possible, before the place is bought for other purposes, and before yet another consecrated place of light and prayer is converted into apartments.

With great respect and love, we send warm wishes for your well-being and we invite you to support us in this endeavour,

I am delighted to anounce in this first blog of 2012 that my latest book is nearly finished. Yoni Shakti Tantra: the thinking woman’s guide to freedom is a compendium of blood wisdom, womb yoga, sacred sexuality, positive health and spiritual empowerment. It has been a long journey to write this book. I have been super-fortunate this year to have had time as a writer in residency courtesy of the Hosking Houses Trust. The Trust awarded me a residency in the delightful little Church Cottage in Clifford Chambers in Warwickshire, where I was able to work for seven weeks this year, visiting three times between July and December 2012.

As a result of the great gift of the peace and solitude afforded me by the Trust in this wonderful cottage, I have been able to write over on hundred thousand words of Yoni Shakti Tantra. It is a radical, inspiring and diverse book that includes a revisioning of the history of women in yoga, the place of women teachers, many fabulous yoga practices that have revealed themselves to me as effective means to nourish feminine energy, and a wealth of resources and research to follow up and inspire. It also includes a critique of the current practice of yoga for women, with a view to empowering yoginis to live in a state of freedom, supported by a womb-friendly yoga practice that extends through every stage of a woman’s life, from menarche to post-menopausal years and into the end of life.

I look forward to sharing teachings from Yoni Shakti Tantra with students and readers as I tour the Womb Yoga around the country, and also on retreats and intensives in the UK, Ireland, Belgium and Denmark in 2012.

Jagadambe Mataki Jai!

In a truly astonishing turn of events, I am delighted to anounce that Mother Maya (Maya Tiwari) will be here in Stroud to offer Satsang and workshops at the Sitaram Yoga Studio on 11th and 12th November. She is an inspirational spiritual pioneer, and am deeeply honoured thatshe has been able to include a visit here to Stroud as part of her Living Ahimsa World Tour.

For details of Mother Maya’s inspiring global activism for women’s health and world healing work please visit

www.mothermaya.com

or www.facebook.com/MayaTiwari or www.MyPeaceVow.com

In Stroud Mother Maya will be holding an evening Satsang Friday 11 November 1900-2100 following after the afternoon of Vedic Chant from the wonderful Lucy Crisfield http://www.sitaram.org/sitaram/news-and-events/.

Mother Maya is also offering a full day workshop on Healing the Ancestors. Saturday 12 November 0930 til 1630. From the Womb Yoga perspective, I feel certain that the direction of positive and healing energies towards our mothers, grandmothers, great- grandmothers and deeper, more ancient souls in our matrilineal line is absolutely crucial to access the potential for deep healing in our own wombs, in our own lives, and in the lives of our daughters and granddaughters. I warmly encourage all womb yoginis and yogis to take advantage of this remarkable opportunity to work up close and personal with a truly powerful spiritual luminary in the collective work of healing for all our ancestors and to clear the way for a future of fully vital living and openness.

There are very limited places for these events, because our studio is not big! For online bookings for Mother Maya’s Stroud Sitaram Yoga Studio events please visit www.yogaseva.org and for enquiries, including to negotiate concessionary rates, please email the very lovely Alexander Honeymann: alexanderhoneymann@gmail.com or call/txt Alexander on 0747420964. Please be aware that there is limited parking for only 12 cars in our drive, so we advise local Stroudies to walk, cycle or lift share!
