Yoga for Postnatal Recovery and Peri-Menopause CPD | LONDON

24 February 2017 | 10:00 – 17:00

with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli

at Yogacampus London, 1 Britannia Row, Islington, London, N1 8QH

Postnatal recovery and the peri-menopausal years are both often characterised by experiences of profound instability and physical and emotional vulnerability (including pelvic organ prolapse). There are links between these two life cycles.

This experiential day long workshop explores how yoga can support us during these special and challenging times. It is open to all women and to yoga teachers/ yoga therapists/ health care practitioners/ midwives / doulas who are seeking to support positive postnatal recovery and peri-menopausal experiences, either for themselves personally, or for their students and clients.

The day counts as continuing professional development (CPD) for teachers who have completed prior trainings with Uma, and can also count towards CPD points for general yoga teachers and teachers/therapists who have prior trainings in postnatal yoga, or yoga therapy for women’s health. Health care practitioners, midwives and/or doulas with an interest in yoga and postnatal recovery and peri-menopause are also welcome to attend, provided they have a living interest in and practice of yoga.

The intention of this day is to provide practical experience of breath (pranayama), rhythmic and restorative yoga postures (asana), energy locks and seals including pelvic locks (mulabandha, ashwini mudra and sahajoli mudra), gestures (mudra), and heart-based meditations (yoga nidra) that promote healthy postnatal recovery and optimal peri-menopausal energies. Supportive sequences of integrated yoga postures that are helpful during postnatal recovery and peri-menopause will be taught, and relevant case studies discussed. An overview of common postnatal and peri-menopausal challenges and opportunities will be discussed in relation to appropriate yogic responses. By the end of the day, participants will have a thorough understanding of the key practical and theoretical yoga therapeutic range of responses that are helpful to support vitality and well-being during postnatal recovery and peri-menopause.

There will be plenty of opportunities for questions and discussions of specific issues relating to postnatal and peri-menopausal periods. This means that if you have specific personal or professional interests relating to these vulnerable and powerful times in women’s lives that you are invited to bring your questions and experiences to share with the group. The programme is open to responsive, intuitive attunements and adjustments to meet the specific needs of those attending.
